Frost Fish Creek Wetland Restoration
Located in Chatham, Massachusetts, Frost Fish Creek is a tidally influenced wetland system. It is directly connected to Ryder's Cove within the Pleasant Bay Estuary, an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). The project area extends just downstream of the Route 28 crossing of Frost Fish Creek. The upstream extent of the system consists of a former cranberry bog that is currently maintained as a freshwater wetland. The system extends west of Crowell Road through two culverts passing under the road into former cranberry bogs that are now forested wetlands (Crowell Road Wetlands).
The larger Frost Fish Creek project has two major elements: 1) culvert replacement/berm removal to restore tidal flow at Route 28 crossing; and 2) restoration of the freshwater bog in the upstream portion of the system. Both of these projects were accepted as Division of Ecological Restoration Priority Projects in 2021.
Major Partners include: Chatham Conservation Foundation, Town of Chatham, Cape Cod Conservation District and MassDOT.
