Ben S. Weiss

I am a research assistant in the Responsive Environments Group, pursuing my Master's degree at MIT's Media Lab. Under the guidance of Brian Mayton, I am learning about the sensor systems currently installed at Tidmarsh and building new ones to meet the needs of restoration ecologists in Massachusetts and beyond.

Experience
After graduating from Yale University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I worked as a robotics engineer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) for 5 years. At WHOI, I helped marine researchers with big ideas go from white board sketch to real-world prototypes. I've developed technologies for a wide range of applications from coral reef restoration and aquaculture to zooplankton sampling.

My expertise lays at the intersection of the different engineering disciplines and earth science.

What I am excited about now
Talk to me about soil science, electronics, and finding creative solutions to the climate challenges. If you are in need of a custom sensor/embedded system to make your science work, let's chat!
