Making Space: Restoring Cranberry Bogs for Marsh Migration

New Contracts Signed to Advance Grant Strategy #3 – Foundations

We’re pleased to share that two new contracts have been signed in support of Grant Strategy #3 – Foundations, focusing on:

  • Task 3B: Hire Staff and Build Capacity (Wetland Restoration Guild – Certified Growers)
  • Task 3C: Create Learning and Reporting Systems

These new partnerships mark important progress in strengthening the capacity, coordination, and shared learning needed to scale wetland restoration work across the region.

Contract #1: Inter-Fluve (Task 3B – Certified Growers)

We’ve contracted with Inter-Fluve to support cranberry growers who are interested in future construction opportunities related to wetland restoration. Their scope includes:

  • Technical Memo – A brief (≤5 pages) summary outlining key technical and legal considerations for growers pursuing restoration construction work.
  • Partner Meeting – A conversation with Mass Audubon, CCCGA, and an advisory group of growers to answer questions and share insights about the construction bidding process.
  • Site Visit – A field visit to both a restoration site and a renovation site, providing growers and partners with hands-on exposure to active projects and opportunities for real-time learning and dialogue.

This work is a key step in building grower capacity and increasing engagement in future restoration efforts.

Contract #2: Strategic Learning Consultant (Task 3C – Learning Systems)

We’ve also brought on a strategic learning consultant to co-develop a strategic learning plan and charter that will guide our shared approach to reflection, measurement, and adaptation. Mass Audubon and Living Observatory will be working closely with the consultant to lead this effort. The consultant’s work includes:

  • Co-creating a shared statement of learning priorities
  • Refining our measurement approach and benchmarks
  • Designing a schedule and rhythm for reflection and adaptation
  • Developing a learning charter that outlines shared principles, roles, and commitments around learning
  • Integrating Making Space tools (e.g., Insight Capture Tools, All-Partner Meetings) into a cohesive and actionable strategic learning plan

This contract helps lay the groundwork for a robust learning system that can grow with the work and support long-term impact.

Stay tuned for updates on the strategic learning plan and charter!
