Marks Cove Wetland Restoration Project

May 2025 Update

It’s been a busy few months for the Marks Cove Restoration Project!

We kicked off March with a successful community design workshop. Mass Audubon sent out 450 flyers to nearby residents, while our partners helped spread the word through email blasts and social media.

On March 2nd, we hosted an on-site “Walk & Talk” event. During the guided tour, staff from Fuss & O’Neill and partner organizations discussed the site’s current uses, community needs, opportunities to build climate resilience, and potential site challenges. The event drew a great turnout—30 community members and 15 partners joined us on a chilly but inspiring day.

Over the following two days, the design team incorporated community feedback into a conceptual design, complete with 3D renderings. On March 4th, these draft designs were presented to the community at the Wareham Free Library, with another strong turnout of 30 community members and 15 partners. The Wareham Conservation Commission was also invited, and we followed up by sharing the conceptual designs and renderings with them.

Since March, the project team has been busy collecting additional site data, refining the design concepts, evaluating strategies for invasive species removal, and discussing next steps for permitting.

Looking ahead, we’re planning a site walk with the Conservation Commission in June and aiming to submit permit applications in July. Stay tuned!
