Volunteer River Herring Monitoring at Beaver Dam Brook and Manomet Brook

2025 Herring Counts Begin Tuesday April 1st!

That time of year is here again! Herring count trainings are scheduled for our new and returning volunteers!

Thanks to assistance from the Plymouth Public Library, this year we have added an additional 22 volunteers to our current pool of 30! We look forward to all the additional counts these new volunteers will produce and the data they will provide.

In addition, we have opened up a third location to counting this season. Bartlett Culvert sits over the spot where Beaver Dam Brook enters Tidmarsh and is just a short distance from the local headwaters of Fresh Pond. The Bartlett Culvert counting location will be open to select volunteers who wish to count there.

New and returning volunteers need to participate in at least 1 training session to count for the season. Watching the recorded online training or attended an in-person training is sufficient.

Click the links below to register for in-person trainings. All in-person trainings will take place at Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary at 60 Beaver Dam Rd in Plymouth, MA.

Friday March 28th 5pm - In-person training 1
Saturday March 29th 10am - In-person training 2

Mass Audubon volunteers can now sign up, search for volunteer opportunities, register for shifts or events, record hours, and stay in touch, all through our Mass Audubon Volunteer Portal.

If you have questions about trainings, volunteering, or the volunteer portal, please contact us at sevols@massaudubon.org.
